I run courses for those just starting out as well as for experienced writers, with sessions focused on inspiration, characterisation, dialogue, story structure, and overcoming blocks. I also run performance storytelling classes for those interested in bringing their stories to life on stage.
I strive to create a safe and supportive atmosphere where you can fill up on inspiration, experiment with new techniques, develop your skills and connect with other writers in the process.

I offer mentoring and editing services to support you on your writing journey, providing personalised feedback and guidance tailored to your unique voice and goals.

As a writer, I have benefitted hugely from one-on-one mentoring in the past and I love working with writers to help them hone their craft. Writing can be lonely and an experienced and supportive outside eye can see your project afresh and offer valuable insights, highlight sticky points and suggest potential edits and next steps, giving you confidence before you send your work out into the world.

I run ad hoc writing events to connect writers in Amsterdam, including opportunities to share your work in a supportive and warm environment.
Events include open mic nights, author readings and Q&As from industry professionals. InkWell's events offer inspiration, a welcoming and warm atmosphere, and a chance to meet other writers in Amsterdam.

My name is Ilana Winterstein
I am an award-winning British writer originally from London but now living in Amsterdam, and I have been in love with creative writing my whole life. Stories are the stuff we are made of, they are the glue that connects. They have the power to move us, to help us imagine other realities and to foster empathy.
