My Story

I have always loved creative writing, and won my first writing competition aged 6 with the high-octane tale of a plucky hedgehog catching a bus (shout-out to the Brownie magazine for giving me my first taste of what it feels like to share my work). My love for stories and experimenting with how to tell them led me to do a Masters degree in Theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

I have written and created many stories for the stage, including as the playwright for The Hope Street Theatre's collaboration with National Museums Liverpool to accompany the Museum's landmark exhibition 'China's First Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors'; writing for the National Youth Theatre (UK); collaborating with Open Attic Theatre Company to turn my original children's story 'Stella and the Star Shiners' into a touring production; writing and performing original storytelling for adults and children; writing historical interactive digital storytelling for Coney in conjunction with Kensington Palace; and creating interactive experiences for one audience member at a time.

I was a writer on attachment with the Bristol Old Vic Theatre, an invited member of Creative England and BFI's South West Talent Module, and an alumni of the National Youth Theatre (UK) and Shine Drama's emerging writers programme, and the Soho Theatre Young Writers programme.

I have won multiple awards for my short stories, and have performed original work, both as a storyteller and spoken word, at festivals and theatres across the UK. I'm experienced in leading creative writing and narrative-building workshops, and have delivered these in schools, festivals, and NGO settings. I recently finished my first novel, supported by the Arts Council England.

Alongside creative writing and theatre-making, I have worked in human rights and climate campaigning for fifteen years as a senior communications campaigner. My ability to tell stories that move people and connect them to vital issues has been central to this work - facts alone do not move people to action, the way to make them care is to tell them a good story. My non-fiction writing has been published in Thomson Reuters Foundation, Al Jazeera, Huffington Post, New Internationalist, and International Business Times, among others.

More recently, I moved into philanthropy, working as senior programme manager of the Narratives Programme for the Laudes Foundation, overseeing multi-million euros in grants on narrative-building work relating to the climate crisis. I now run a consultancy helping philanthropies strengthen their narrative-building strategies, and supporting change-makers to embrace their innate creativity to unlock innovative approaches to driving systems change.

I believe in the power of stories to change the world. Stories open our imaginations to what is possible, build valuable empathy, and show us new ways of being. This has been the connective thread running throughout my life.
